Match Report
Hyde v Wellow and Plaitford B 13 July 08
There was a relaxed end-of term feeling as we met for the final home game of the season. It was fair and dry, but the wicket was pretty soft after monumental rain for most of the preceding week. Hyde won the toss and put the visitors in to bat.
Throughout the season we have come to expect a great wicket haul from the Hyde bowling attack, but today it just didn't happen. Wellow didn't make rapid progress but the runs steadily piled up and the progress was not hampered by any wickets falling! The visitor finished with 241 with mr Extra contributing significantly.
Paddy clearly felt the need to make amends for the team's indifferent performance in the field. He set off with purpose and scored a rocket-powered 40 of 17 balls. It is a cruel twist of the game that great bowling is hard to score off, and so is very poor bowling. In the later overs many balls were so slow and low (after the second bounce of a soggy pitch) that scoring was very hard. Hyde lost 4 wickets - all in silly circumstances - but went on to set a good total, finishing on 273.
It was a very pleasant way to round off the northern league matches. Good weather, a good result and friendly, relaxed opponents playing in good spirit.
Thanks to Charlie fro umpiring and to Penny for organising the galley.
