Match Report
Hyde v Redlynch and Hale 15 June 08
Cricket will take over your life - and I found myself making last minute changes to the team in the most unusual circumstance..... I was right in the middle of a crowd of 40,000 waiting to se Bruce Springsteen's show at the Millennium Stadium - a somewhat surreal experience. Luckily the band waited until I'd finished my call before starting.
Hyde won the toss and chose to bowl under broken cloud on a bright morning. As expected, this team put up some serious resistance and the first pair built to 225 runs having lost only 2 wickets. A degree of control was exerted through Alfie, who bowled a double wicket maiden and had a superb day in the field, with a catch and a run-out. In the middle overs the visitors score dropped below 200 as wickets tumbled but a determined performance from the last pair brought them back to 228 at the end. This was a far high total than any other team had taken from us to date and it was clear that this match could be closer than some others.
The Hyde batting performance was undoubtedly the best of the season. The opening pair set up a good foundation with Patrick getting 17no. The team all batted well, building steadily to a significant total, and losing only 1 wicket in the innings. In previous matches the fielding and bowling have proved decisive but today's' batting superiority was great to see. The final total was 277, so we collect another maximum 15 points, reinforcing our position at the top of the league.
A great team performance all round - well done.
Thanks to team Alvis - Dan for scoring and Penny for teas and players drinks.
