NF u11 Cricket - Summer 08
Squad Aims and Selection Policies
This document sets out the policy by which the New Forest u11 Squad will be managed for the 2nd half of the 2008 cricket season.
The squad will be managed in order to meet these aims, in order of priority:
1. To win the HCB District Festival.
2. To develop players with potential to play for Hampshire.
3. To develop a squad of 22-24 players playing representative cricket at a high standard.
Selection was made at a meeting[1] on 26 June. The squad was selected on the basis of potential, ability, technical skill and attitude. Selection will be made to meet the squad aims stated above.
A ‘festival team’ of 12 players is nominated to represent the district at all 3 festival games. Additional players will be asked to represent the district in festivals if required.
Those players not selected for the festival team will play in the development series matches and will be termed the ‘new forest development squad’.
In order to meet the squad aims, selection for the forthcoming games was made as follows:
Development Match 24 July. This match will be used as preparation for the festival matches and will be played by the festival team.
Festival Matches 28-30 July. These matches will be played by the festival team.
Best of District Match 1 Aug. Selection by Hampshire Cricket Board.
Development Matches 25 July, 4th, 7th and 14th August. Up to 3 members of the Festival team will be selected for these matches, the remainder being from the New Forest development squad.
It is intended that the festival team players will play 5 matches while the new Forest development squad will play 3 matches. Availability and specialisation mean that some players may to play more or less than this numerical average.
